The key was originally based to a large extent on the field key in 'British Mosses and Liverworts' by E. Vernon Watson (CUP, 1955). I have, however rewritten parts of it, in part to update it with more modern taxanimic nomenclature (using the Dutch standard list), and also using information from the floras mentioned below, as well as my own observations. Photographs are all taken by myself.
